At Thanksgiving Market: Lee Dickenson Pottery

Potter Lee Dickenson has sold her lovely wares at Cheverly Community Market with Rose Fennell in the past, but with Rose having moved to Boston, we're very happy to have Lee join us solo! 

 

Lee lives nearby in Brentwood, Maryland, and has been a potter for about 10 years.  She works out of the Glen Echo Pottery Studio, in addition to working on a pottery wheel in her own home. It's a kick wheel, which Lee is convinced provides her with needed exercise. Pottery at Glen Echo is high fired to a temperature of about 2300 degrees fahrenheit. It's food safe, and dishwasher safe.

Make sure to stop by and shop with Lee this Saturday at Thanksgiving Market -- she has beautiful, one-of-a-kind work that will be enhance your table (or a very lucky gift recipient's home) for years to come!

At Thanksgiving Market: Andrews and Dunham Damn Fine Tea

Andrews & Dunham, located in Cheverly, Maryland, is proud to have been offering their Damn Fine Tea to enthusiastic tea fans since 2009. Charles and Erik have supported the Cheverly Community Market since its inception and are regular vendors at the Holiday Markets. This year, they're especially excited to be bringing their newest line of teas to the market --Tiger Assam, Caravan Resurrected, and the Double Knit Blend. These are hearty, strong blends of black teas, perfect for the long winter months ahead!

This holiday season, take time to think about those less fortunate. In the tough economic times, more people than ever need your help. Please bring your donations of canned or dried foods (in cans or boxes, please, no glass containers) to donate to Cheverly's American Legion Post 108 Food Drive at Thanksgiving Market.

At Thanksgiving Market: Martha's Jams

Martha Allen of Martha's Jams is a truly local treasure. A Cheverly resident, she makes delicious small-batch jams and preserves and has been with Cheverly Community Market from the start. For Thanksgiving Market -- in addition to her wonderful regular flavors -- Martha has cooked up some special treats: pear and pumpkin butters, as well as persimmon. If we're really lucky, she may even make some pear-ginger and pure jalapeno -- I bet they smell amazing as they're cooking!

Visit Martha this Saturday for a great secret ingredient to your holiday meals, a sweet gift to take to another holiday celebration, or the perfect thing to slather on toast on a chilly morning!

It's Yard Sign Time!

Can you believe that we're less than two weeks from celebrating Thanksgiving? This season has been a whirlwind, and while we are winding down (and looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday mornings!) we're not done yet!

This Saturday, Cheverly Community Market hosts the biggest Thanksgiving Market in our history. With nearly 40 vendors and community groups participating, there are double the regular amount of things to see, do, and (most importantly) eat this Saturday from 9am to 1pm in the Community Center.

We're thrilled to bring everyone together, and look forward to sharing the morning with you! Help us get the word out to everyone in town by putting out your yard sign today, and by inviting your friends and neighbors to join you at the Community Center on Saturday morning.

At Thanksgiving Market: Year of the Oak Celebration

Cheverly wraps up its 2012 Year of the Oak Celebrations in the Conference Room at Cheverly Community Center during Thanksgiving Market.

It's not too late to plant oaks on your property to help keep Cheverly green, and support the Maryland and Cheverly Year of the Oak! 

• Mount Rainier Nature Center will present an educational program on oak trees with lots of activities for kids, including exhibits of local animals that benefit from healthy trees and green space. Bring the kids and join the fun!

• Bring your questions on tree care to the special "Ask the Arborist" session from 11:00 to 1:00, with arborist Doris Koehler of Branches Tree Experts.

• Where are Cheverly’s biggest trees? Come to the long-awaited Cheverly Great Tree contest awards ceremony to find out.
