It's that time again...please post your yard signs today!

Fall in Love with Cheverly Community Market this Saturday!
Many thanks to all of our terrific Yard Sign Ambassadors for helping to promote Cheverly Community Market. As you know, we are no longer posting yard signs on the public ways (though we do still put up our big signs on Cheverly Avenue, so you'll always know when it's a Market week!) Honestly, we were concerned that we might have lower attendance at the Market since there were fewer signs out. Happily, that was not the case at our first September Market -- we had great response to our request for additional Yard Sign Ambassadors over the past few weeks! We owe a great community-wide awareness to your efforts...thank you. Please help us continue to spread the word and get your yard signs out today!
We have a lot to love -- and a lot to Fall in Love with -- on the eve of autumn at Cheverly Community Market this Saturday! Linganore Vineyards, will be with us again, as will Cakes by Ruthann, Prince George's County Master Gardeners, and all your favorites (and we'll have a new vendor, too!) CPRC will have it's annual Halloween Costume Collection, so find those outgrown kid's costumes and join in the fun. We'll also be celebrating the big news of last week: we are thrilled to finish at #1 in the state of Maryland and #16 nationally in American Farmland Trust's I Love My Farmer's Market contest. Thank you for sharing the love!
Remember, our special Thanksgiving and Holiday Markets application is now available online. If you're a local (defined as within a 100-mile radius of Cheverly) artist or craftsperson, a specialty baker, or a gardener, this is a great opportunity to sell your locally produced work. These two special Markets -- always the biggest of our season -- have featured handmade jewelry, pottery, drawings, blankets, quilted goods, metal work, glassware, handspun alpaca yarn, baking gifts, wreaths, small-batch cosmetics and skincare, and many other unique, beautiful crafts and gift items in addition to an amazing lineup of our regular vendors. The application deadline is October 21, so now's the time to get to work!

Holiday Market December 14

(both Markets are 8am to noon in the Community Center)

Again, many thanks for your continued support -- we're looking forward to a great Market this Saturday, and the opportunity to Fall in Love with Cheverly Community Market all over again!

Today is the day! Please vote for Cheverly Community Market!

Today is the final day of voting in American Farmland Trust's I Love My Farmer's Market Contest. Cheverly Community Market is currently at #1 in Maryland, #18 in the United States, and we need your vote today before midnight!
By voting for the Market, you are making a pledge to spend at least $10 with our farmers each week, which you already, likely, do. By voting for Cheverly Community Market, you show that the Market has an important role in our community -- to the farmers and to the citizens who live in an area that has historically been a food desert. Cheverly and the surrounding areas need access to fresh produce, and Cheverly Community Market has provided that access since 2008.
Please, support Cheverly Community Market and our farmers by voting in the American Farmland Trust I Love My Farmer's Market contest today. It only takes a minute, and you'll start the week off on a very good note. Thank you for your support.

People are taking notice!

We were thrilled by an email we received from Cheverly people-about-town Kate & Rob Hansen. The email included a link to a story from The Daily Dish -- 101 Best Farmer's Markets in America -- and lo and behold...Cheverly Community Market is on the list! We're #69 and very proud to be part of this group!

Also, please remember to vote for Cheverly Community Market in American Farmland Trust's I Love My Farmer's Market contest -- voting ends in just 10 days and we're currently at #22 in the United States (#1 in Maryland)...can we break into the Top 20? Your vote would certainly help!

Thinking about last weekend's Market? Show us some love!

It was a beautiful morning -- a great way to end August -- and we have the proof! We have photos on our flickr page -- we're at 10,450 photos covering the Cheverly Community Market since we started in 2008.
Don't forget...there's still time to vote for Cheverly Community Market in the American Farmland Trust 2013 I Love My Farmer's Market contest. Just pledge to spend $10 each week at the Market -- you can vote every day! We see you at the Market...show us some love!
Finally, we will no longer be placing yard signs in the public ways (our big signs will still be posted on Mondays before Markets to help you remember!) That means we need as many people as possible to host yard signs on their lawns -- if you can help us, we'd love to hear from you! Please email us your address, and we'll deliver a sign to your home and add you to our yard sign ambassador list. We have all sorts of great vendors, groups, and special events coming your way through the end of our 2013 season, and we need your help spreading the word! Thank you!

Thank you for a real community morning!

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful end-of-summer morning at Cheverly Community Market! From our vendors to our volunteers to our customers, we consider you all family. We'll be posting photos from an especially lovely morning very soon.

We want to extend a special thanks to the Prince George's Department of Health for including us in their on-site food availability survey -- they'll be with us again soon. We hear that they got a lot of great information, and it's important to boosting access to healthy food sources in our county. We also want to thank all the community groups: Chevery CERT, CPRC, St. Ambrose Men's Club's Annual Blood Drive, and Friends of Lower Beaverdam Creek for their time at the Market, and Cheverly Green Infrastructure for bringing Community Forklift to us this weekend.

We hope you're enjoying all the wonderful food, flowers, and crafts that you bought at the Market...we hear there's a lot of amazing gazpacho in town today!

Finally, there's still time to vote for Cheverly Community Market in the American Farmland Trust 2013 I Love My Farmer's Market contest. Just pledge to spend $10 each week at the Market -- you can vote every day!

It's that time...help us spread the word and get those yard signs out!

SPECIAL MESSAGE: We have postponed our Annual Farm to Table Potluck and are currently reviewing possible dates for the Fall. If you've already purchased tickets, we will refund your money, or you may hold on to your ticket for the future date. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support.
Hello everyone -- we hope you had a wonderful Independence Day weekend and that you enjoyed loads of fresh, local food! Summer is really in full swing -- we can't wait for Saturday and the promise of fresh, local food, unique crafts, and terrific music.

It's time to get yard signs out for our July 13 Market -- we have nearly 25 vendors, community groups, and musicians lined up for what looks to be a gorgeous Saturday morning and we're eager to share the day with you. This is the best time of the year for seasonal local produce, so bring your friends and neighbors to stock up at Cheverly Community Market this weekend.

Make sure to stop by the big green Market tent, where you can meet our board members, share your thoughts, pledge to eat at least one locally grown item every day during Maryland's Buy Local Challenge Week (July 20-28), vote for Cheverly Community Market in American Farmland Trust's America's Favorite Farmer's Market Contest (we're currently second in the state of Maryland!), or purchase tickets for our Annual Farm to Table Potluck on August 10 (you can also purchase tickets anytime via EventBrite). And don't forget: throughout the week, we'll bring vendor news and other highlights to you right here on the blog, so visit us often.

There's a lot of wonderful this weekend at Cheverly Community Market...we'll see you there!

Share the Love!

Last year, we were THRILLED (to put it mildly) to be the named seventh favorite small farmer's market in the United States in the American Farmland Trust America's Favorite Farmer's Markets contest. Definitely a high point, and it meant a great deal to everyone involved with the daily operations of Cheverly Community Market. In fact, we attribute part of our growth from a small boutique market into the mid-size category to doing so well in the 2012 contest.

With the start of the 2013 farmer's market season, competition to see who will be at the top this year has just begun! As we said, we are now in the mid-size range -- we average 16-30 vendors per market this season. That means we'll be up against a whole new range of markets across the country, and while we think we can place in this larger category in our first year, it's going to take YOU! Please vote for Cheverly Community Market in the 2013 contest and make a pledge to spend $10 per week at the Market. And please, ask your friends, family, and neighbors to do the same. Voting begins May 28 and runs through September 9.

You can learn more about the contest on the American Farmland Trust website.
