New Vendor: Gone Greens

We got a great email this week -- a request to appear at Cheverly Community Market from Gone Greens of Hyattsville. Launched in 2012, the company came about as a result of the work that owner Nessa McClain did as she wrote the cookbook The Worlds Gone Collard Greens.

The company has ventured into developing innovative methods for the home cooks, specialty stores, restaurants, and caterers to experience collard greens on a totally different level; collard greens are an everyday love affair. Gone Greens is motivated to transform the collard green into a daily cooking staple, comparable to broccoli, spinach and lettuce.

Gone Greens offers collard green-based condiments, made fresh daily from locally sourced ingredients. The Pesto, Chutney, Chili Paste and Pico de Gallo Flavor Blends are great multicultural condiments that are wonderful addition to the American meal experience. See descriptions for the full line of products on the Gone Greens website, then stop by and meet Nessa this Saturday. She'll have great tips for bringing collard greens to your table this fall.

Who's coming to the Market this Saturday? The big lineup (September 7 edition.)

We love these cooler temperatures -- they make for lovely mornings at Cheverly Community Market! They also mark the return of a longtime favorite vendor, Tom Baldwin of New Starts Farm. Drop by for a visit with our very own harbinger of fall, meet our newest vendor (Handmade Habitat), welcome back two stalwarts who were not with us last week (Waltz Family Farm and Cheverly Breadbasket), and enjoy special music and activities while shopping for the very best in local food, wine, and handmade goods. And make sure to stop by the big green market tent to purchase reusable CCM bags (just $2!), meet our board members, and learn more about local food and wine.

Go local. Shop small. Do it this Saturday at Cheverly Community Market.

Who's coming to the Market? The Big Lineup (July 13 edition)

SPECIAL MESSAGE: We have postponed our Annual Farm to Table Potluck and are currently reviewing possible dates for the Fall. If you've already purchased tickets, we will refund your money, or you may hold on to your ticket for the future date. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support.

As we all -- hopefully -- dry out a bit from the storms and sogginess of the past few days, the busy bees at Cheverly Community Market have been working overtime to bring you a great lineup for Saturday shopping. Don't forget to stop by the big green Market tent to pick up your tickets for our Annual Farm to Table Potluck, get a Market sticker or calendar, learn more about the Buy Local Challenge, or vote for Cheverly Community Market in the American Farmland Trust "I Love My Market" contest (we're currently #1 in Maryland!) The weather should be a vast improvement tomorrow -- Capitol Weather Gang says it'll be the best day of the weekend -- we're looking forward to sharing another great summer morning with you at Cheverly Community Market!

We're thrilled to announce a new vendor, Jose Castillobeza, who sells locally roasted Guatemalan coffee beans, arguably the crown jewel of South American coffee production. Because of the diversity of microclimates throughout the country, there are a wide variety of beans grown in the region, with many interesting characteristics. Read all about Guatemalan coffee growing here.
