Holiday Market: Meals at the Market

Why not make a full morning of Cheverly Community Market's Holiday Market on December 14?
Come early, eat breakfast with Cafe Ambrosia, do your shopping, enjoy Jamaican specialties from Cakes by Ruthann (and pick up wonderful rum cakes to share throughout the season), and do some more shopping as you listen to great performers playing Dixieland jazz.
All that shopping and visiting can make you hungry! Why not have a hot lunch at C&JD's Stand, then top off your day with fantastic cupcakes from Classic & Carefree Bake Shoppe?
However you choose to dine on Saturday, we hope you'll enjoy at least one meal with the wonderful vendors of Cheverly Community Market!

Holiday Market: Shlagel Farms

Shlagel Farms brings perfect local Maryland produce from the farm to the market -- all that's left is getting it on your table.

D&D AFFORDABLES
We always enjoy watching shoppers at D&D Affordables, a great source of thoughtful gifts for shoppers who want lovely items on a budget. In fact, many D&D customers come back year after year, selecting something for those on their gift lists and a little something for themselves, too!

ESSENTIAL REIGN NATURALS & ORGANICS
Baltimore's Essential Reign Naturals & Organics joined us for the first time at Thanksgiving Market, and they were an immediate hit with Cheverly Community Market customers. Make sure to stop by and find out about  Black Diamond Soap, a Great way to take care of your skin this winter!

GIGI's QUILTS
We were so happy that Gigi Lombardo  was able to join us for Thanksgiving Market. As many of you know, Gigi has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung and brain cancer, and is currently undergoing treatment. She is returning for Holiday Market, bringing the remainder of the lovely quilted, crocheted, and knitted items that she's made over the years. Stop by her table and find handmade gifts for any age.

POTTERY BY LEE DICKENSON
Did you get a chance to peruse the wonderful pottery at Thanksgiving Market? Lee Dickenson will return to Holiday Market with her beautiful work. These pieces would make very thoughtful gifts, and they'd be lovely on a holiday table.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES
We are big fans of the Little Library movement. The idea of thoughts being shared throughout a neighborhood -- of great stories winning new fans in unexpected corners -- is something we love about the community. Many of you are probably already members of one of Cheverly's many book groups, and you likely have some books that you've enjoyed but don't need to keep. Or maybe you're looking for a new read and you've been unsuccessful. That's where Little Free Libraries come in. Visit their table at Holiday Market to learn more, and bring a book or two that you'd like to share with your neighbors!

MARY D's CREATIONS
We were sorry that Mary was unable to join us at Thanksgiving Market -- blame it on an early winter flu bug. We're very happy that Mary D's Creations will return to Cheverly for Holiday Market. She makes truly lovely crocheted baby sweaters, as well as jewelry and other items. Make sure to stop by and see for yourself!

NDIAYE DESIGN
Cheverly's Diana Ndiaye is an internationally acclaimed artist who creates stunning fiber art and traditional crafts influenced by her field research in expressive culture in the African world, which has taken her to Senegal, Cape Verde, South Africa, Surinam, Haiti, French Guiana, Tortola, Jamaica, Bahamas, Bermuda, Barbados, France and several regions of the United States. Diana will bring jewelry, traditional crafts, woven bags, notecards, framed prints, scarves and small gift bookmarks to Holiday Market this Saturday. These would be stunning gifts for that very special, very stylish person in your life.

PROFUSIONS OF GLASS
If you attended our Thanksgiving Market, you already know that Profusions of Glass makes gorgeous fused glass art pieces. Tina Van Pelt creates a full line of pendants, barrettes, earrings and pins, as well as architectural glass (such as drawer pulls and infused glass tiles that are designed to be used for backsplashes and accents) in her Riverdale studio. Make sure to stop by the Profusions of Glass table at Holiday Market this Saturday to meet Tina and see her beautiful work for yourself. These pieces are lovely gifts for any occasion, so it's a wonderful opportunity to purchase locally made, gorgeous gifts for the very special people in your life.

SLIPPERY CROCKERY
Cheverly's Caitlin Adams collects, restores and upcycles vintage housewares and clothing into modern pieces for her company, Slippery Crockery. She sells online on indie favorite Etsy, as well as at local festivals and fairs. Please give a warm welcome to Caitlin at Holiday Market this Saturday -- you'll find truly unique pieces that will delight for years to come.

WHIRLYGIGGLES
Heather Dressel of Severna Park is a creative thinker, and her Whirlygiggles playsets celebrate childhood fun and exploration while encouraging children to USE their imaginations. One of the best parts is it also encourages grown-ups to join in the fun. Heather started her business making wall art and bow holders for children, and she plans to offer them at special market prices. Over time, Heather was inspired by her own munchkins to explore the creative play market as she became exhausted by the plastic and electronic toys that seemed to suck the imagination right out of them. We're so happy to have new vendor Whirlygiggles -- and these wonderful creative toys -- with us again for Holiday Market!

Make sure to visit all these great vendors at Saturday's Holiday Market, 8am to noon at the Cheverly Community Center!

Mary and Katie of The Grateful Table sent this message:
We loved the November Market and are really looking forward to our second holiday market! The Grateful Table is a mother-daughter Personal Chef Service with a mission to provide custom-made healthy meals that showcase the availability and quality of local and sustainably produced ingredients. What better way to do this than to stop by our table for a sample of steaming hot soup guaranteed to fight off the winter chills. and made from the market's freshest bounty available that day. Our thanks to the many farmers at the market that provide the wonderful ingredients for us to share.

Recipes will also be available to those in attendance throughout the event. Please stop by to learn more about how we can make your life simpler and more delicious.

Holiday Market: CPRC Storytime

We are always so grateful to the wonderful parents and families of Cheverly Parents Resource Center for Storytime at the Market. These activities have been a wonderful part of the Market for years, and we've enjoyed watching the children grow!

Please join CPRC for the final Storytime of the 2013 season at Holiday Market. At 10am, enjoy a simply beautiful book, Uncle Vova's Tree, by Patricia Polacco. The tale highlights Russian holiday lore while paying tribute to the importance of honoring one's heritage by preserving tradition. It tells the story of the children in an extended family of Russian immigrants, and Christmas at Uncle Vova's provides a literal and visual feast.

Holiday Market: Elk Run Vineyards

We're always so happy to have Bob Cecil of Elk Run Vineyards at Cheverly Community Market -- so many wonderful wines to sample! Bob returns for Holiday Market -- a special treat -- and sends this message:
For this year's Holiday Market, Elk Run will be bringing its entire product line of available wines. A special treat will be samples of our just-released sparkling wine and our limited production Liberty Tavern Cabernet Sauvignon. We will also feature wines that received Silver or Gold medals in the recent World Wine Championships managed by the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. The winners are our 2011 Syrah (Gold Medal, Exceptional), 2011 Pinot Noir (Gold Medal, Exceptional), 2012 Gewurztraminer (Gold Medal, Exceptional, Best Buy), 2102 Liberty Tavern Chardonnay (Silver Medal, Highly Recommended) and and 2102 Riesling (Silver Medal, Highly Recommended). Because of limited availability, the Holiday Market may be the last time some of these wines are available for sale.

Holiday Market: Timeless Pages

We're very happy to have Cheverly artist Kate Heneghan join us at Cheverly Community Market this holiday season. Kate tells us about her Timeless Pages line here:
I make sculptures and handcrafts out of books and pages from books. Because I like the idea of people reconnecting to books as objects, I turn them into pieces of art. While my Etsy store sells more expensive book sculptures and altered books, I am bringing more inexpensive Christmas ornaments to the holiday market. All handmade and one-of-a-kind, they include decoupaged pine-cones, folded paper ornaments made from book pages and sheet music, small paper sculptures of figures, hot air balloons, flowers and birds, and very small hardback books with carvings in them. I even have a few glass bottles with the nativity story contained inside (a Christmas "message in a bottle"). All make unique gifts or additions to your tree.
Make sure to visit Kate and Timeless Pages at Holiday Market!

Holiday Market: Benny's Fruit Stand/Rebert Farm

At Cheverly Community Market, we're big fans of the Rebert brothers, and we know you are, too. Benny's Fruit Stand/Rebert Farm brings a great variety of our favorite end-of-the-year produce to Cheverly from their Pennsylvania farm, and they arrive before first light on Saturday mornings with a truck full of luscious, perfect fruits and vegetables. Boy, are we lucky to have them!

There are so many wonderful things to eat at the end of the growing year: apples, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, broccoli....these the basis of many delicious dishes we enjoy all winter long! This Saturday, stock up on wonderful fresh produce from Benny's Fruit Stand/Rebert Farm. The Rebert brothers will have a will have a variety of apples, winter squash, onions, sweet potatoes, potatoes, broccoli, and the most delicious fresh pressed cider.

Holiday Market: Kelly Mulligan Photography

One of the great pleasures we have at Cheverly Community Market is people watching. We love watching babies grow into children (and teens!), old and new friends meet, and our vendors and customers make lasting relationships and learn about each other. At Thanksgiving Market, we especially enjoyed meeting photographer Kelly Mulligan and hearing her chat with the many people who stopped by her table.
Not only are we impressed by Kelly's work, we love that every photo has a real story -- just ask Kelly! These images have meaning, and that shines through. What a lovely gift to share this holiday season.
Almost always behind the camera, Kelly is a new mom, photographer and art teacher. Formally trained in visual art and photography, Kelly received her BFA from Rutgers University in 1998 and her MFA from Temple University in 2001. Kelly has taught photography and visual arts at a number of colleges and universities including the Corcoran College of Art + Design, George Washington University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Temple University. She currently teaches photojournalism and computer graphics at Langley High School in McLean, Virginia. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in DC, NJ, NY, PA, VA and in Germany. With an eye for spontaneity and whimsy, Kelly strives to honor the beauty in everyday life.
Meet Kelly this Saturday and peruse a lovely selection of original photographic artworks, including animal themed images for children's rooms, as well as landscape and travel imagery. She's prepared an assortment of sizes and display options including traditional mats, frames, and flush-mounted images on deep-cradled wooden blocks.
