This week at the Market: Elk Run Vineyards

Celebrate Maryland Wine Week with us! Elk Run Vineyards, one of the top wineries on the East Coast, combines modern research and technology with traditions and practices of old world wine making to produce extremely fine wines with character, structure, balance, and gorgeous color. Bob and Susan Cecil look forward to returning for their sixth year at Cheverly Community Market. They've always enjoyed their involvement and appreciate the kind reception they've received from market volunteers and patrons.

This weekend, Elk Run Vineyards is featuring our dry red wines from the 2010 vintage year. 2010 was their best growing season in the past decade and arguably the best in the 32 years they've have been in operation. Elk Run Vineyards' latest awards are from the Beverage Testing Institute: they received gold medals for their 2010 Merlot (91 points-Exceptional) and Pinot Noir (90 points-Exceptional), and a silver medal for their Cabernet Franc (89 points-Highly Recommended)

RED DOOR - Cold Friday Vineyard, MD 2011
New Release
A multi-grape blend made using the saignee process giving the wine bright red berry fruit flavors with smooth tannins. A light, easy-drinking  red wine.

Classic pinot noir, dark color, complex flavors, moderate tannins. Smooth, soft and silky with hints of cherry, raspberry and blackberry fruit.

Rich in color, flavors of cherry and blackberry with soft tannins, good balance and a medium finish.

Dark ruby color with coffee, mocha, and walnut cookie aromas. Rich dried plum flavors with subtle spice notes and a balanced finish.
